1993 Crown Victoria odometer stopped

The speedometer works but the odometer just stopped turning...no noise or intermittent operation. It's probably a simple job but what is the best way to troubleshoot this? Thanks

It's the vehicle speed sensor that is failing. The vehicle speed sensor, which is mounted in the transmission, creates an electrical signal that is used by both the vehicle’s engine computer, speed & odometer. Failure of this sensor is not uncommon, is not costly and is easily replaced. It would be best to take your vehicle to the repair facility when the problem is occurring. This allows diagnosis to confirm the need of the parts being replaced.

I rerspectfully disagree...Having ran thru 3 oddometers on my T-Birds (another similar ford product) my experience sez the danged things break internally.... theres a cheap brittle plastic part inside the speedo head that invariably breaks.... lotsa miles , hot weather , and resetting the trip odometer exacerbates the problem...... Go to;
www.instrumentclusters.com and they will elaborate. they also have a aftermarket replacement part that has higher endurance. its a no brainer to send them the thing exchange, and end up with a better odometer/speedo.....Removing the cluster is a PITA
