Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Default 2006 Crown Vic accelerating while braking

We recently purchased 3 new 2006 Crown Victorias for our fleet. Several drivers have complained that on a few occasions their foot hits both the brake and the gas when they attempt to stop. This causes the vehicle to lurch when braking. Most of the drivers that are having the problem have big feet but have never had this problem with any other model year. Has any one else experienced this? As far as I know there has not been a recall or service bulliten. Any information would be helpful.

Yes I have had the same problem with my Mercury Gran Marquis (Crown Vic equivalent) and my daughter has had it too. I think it is extremely dangerous situation and that warrents an action from Ford.

The only fix for this problem is to have ajustable pedals installed to get them off the floor more .Then ajust the car seat back or down to get a better angle to the pedals.Had the same problem and between ajust the pedal height and seat and that fixed it.

I've not experienced this problem on a Ford, but it sounds like just about every Japanese car that I've driven - the pedals are too close together for our big American feet.

Adjustable pedals only move toward and away from the driver. That won't help a situation where the gas and brake pedals are too close together. I would recommend communicating your problem to the stealership the vehicles were purchased from. Maybe they have a solution.

I drive a GM and as long as you move your foot from gas to brake and not try to pivot on your heel that should help just change driving habits.

It not taught much anymore, but driving with both feet is much safer and your braking response time is cut in half and you do not have to worry about foot to pedal placement! I have driven automatics this way since I was 17...

You just have to have a brain that lets you do two things at once!
