Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Default 1989 Crown Vic stalls warm, intermittently

Hello everyone, I am glad that these forums still exist! We are going crazy with this issue. We have 4 fords, 1989 Crown Vic, 1996 Mustang GT, 2003 Ford Ranger, 1960 F100 Pickup.

Any way, we the 1989 Crown Vic is a super nice southern car that we picked up 4 years ago. Noting has gone wrong with this car until now, other than general maintenance and normal replacement, brakes, etc. The air still works.

It has 150K miles on it, and it just started stalling on us, in gear, like at a light or at an idle. Only sometimes. Then it is very hard to start. Another problem it just started having is it seems to "miss" just for one second while going from drive to overdrive, or around 35-40 miles per hour. I thought it was the transmission at first, since the "miss" thing started to happen prior to the stalling.

Next time you drive it, it is fine. Took it to the shop today to have it code scanned, had it running for two hours, no codes, nothing.

From reading a few other posts, I am looking toward an ignition module, what do you think?

Thanks from Wyoming, MI!!!!!!!

I think you are probably right about the ignition module. No codes is a classic sign along with the unexpected stalls after engine gets hot. Good luck.

Yeah I would try the module too. Also pull 3 or 4 spark plugs and check the gaps on them and see if they are OK.

By the way - I just made a diagram showing how to check your TFI module to see if it is bad. Better to test it before buying a new one just to be sure. Check the "Engine and Drivetrain" Forum for the diagram if interested.

CBREW910, thanks for posting an update/resolution. a lot of people on here (and other forums) ask for help, get suggestions and then never post back with whether they solved the problem or how they solved it. so when other people come here searching for answers, it makes it that much harder.
