Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Default Best Value? P71 vs Fusion

I need some suggestions, so I thought I would ask the CV owners here. I currently drive a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 with close to 100,000 miles on it. My part time work (insurance photographer) has me driving up to 450 miles (mix of highway and city driving) and up to 40 addresses per day I'm out (from 7AM to 10PM). I know it's tough on my car, but it's also tough on my body. The ZX3 has a fairly stiff suspension, so it's a fun car to drive, but not so great for 12+ hours of driving. I come home aching. So it got me thinking about a cheap replacement with a softer ride: Fusion or Crown Vic?

So my question: Which is a better value / better suited for long drives with frequent stops? A used Fusion or a used CVPI? Here are a few 'deals' I have found locally.

-2007 Fusion 4-banger with 29,000 miles for $10,000?
-2006 Fusion 4-banger with 54,000 miles for $7,900
-2004 P71 with 50,200 miles for $5,000? <-- very clean car
-2005 P71 with 107,500 miles (nice black color, push bars, spot lights) for $4,500?

Another reason I like the P71 is because my work sometimes takes me into bad neighborhoods (Detroit). With a laptop mounted, 3G card, GPS, CB, and other valuables inside as part of my mobile office, I have a hard time thinking anyone would risk stealing / breaking into a cop car compared to a Focus or Fusion. So it's not just about comfort, but also safety (or perceived safety at least).

The P71's are cheap, but I'm worried they would end up costing more in the long run (repairs, gas, etc...). What do you think?
