Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Unhappy Sudden Power Loss/2001 Crown Vic Interceptor

Hi There,

I experienced a strange problem with my 2001 Interceptor (~120k miles, usually drives very well and achieves normal mileage etc...) today. I drove to lunch, and suddenly lost power while going about 40-50 mph. Was barely able to pull into a nearby parking lot. Popping the hood revealed that the car was still idling, but fairly rough. Opening the throttle made the engine stutter and full opening of the throttle nearly stalled the engine. Release of the throttle restored rough idle. All this looked to me like a dead fuel pump. However, upon turning the engine off, and then starting it again completely restored normal vehicle operation. I was able to complete my lunch endeavor without further incident. The car drove completely normal for more than 20 miles.
I am wondering if anybody has experienced similar behavior, or has an idea what the problem might be? Thanks much in advance for your input!
