Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Default Recently purchased a P71...and I have a few questions!

Hello everyone; I decided to buy a P71 and I have a few questions about it.

1) Behind the grill & in front of the engine there are two speaker-looking-like items. Would they both be from the horn? Or could one/both be for a siren/PA system?
2) My electric driver seat won't go forward or backwards at all. It'll raise the supports, but that's it.
3) I do have rust around a wheel well and on the seat brackets inside of the car, how can I get them fixed?
4) Where can I buy replacement parts for my P71?
5) My spotlight will revolve around its arm, but I cannot get it to rotate from side to side. What can I do?
6) Would a Maaco paint job be sufficient for myself to get a newer looking vehicle?

Thanks SO much...I'm definitely new to this!

Also...the steering is 'jerky' when I am turning much at all. During normal driving (freeway, highway, etc) I do not notice the strain as I'm not turning very sharp at all. What could this be?

Couple of things that maybe I can help with.

The seat: take the panel off and check the switch and the wiring leading to and from it. This is most likely the problem. If I remember right there is only one motor under there so if the seat is moving at all the motor should be okay.

Spotlight: WD-40 the living heck out of the thing, some of the cheaper ones were prone to rusting inside. If that doesn't work you'll need to take the light off and look over the mounting brackets. Your culprit may be a cracked plastic bushing (again, depends on the quality of the kit whatever department put in it origionally). Have fun, it is a pain in the tail feathers if you have not done it before. The good news: Galls.com can sell you the mounting kit for about $20.

Mine has a Maaco-like paint job, about two years old. No, it isn't great but it looks a LOT better than the faded peeling factory paint did and it set me back about $600 instead of two grand. Also any halfway competent body shop can address the rust issue (if it is more serious--if you're talking surface rust save the cash and do it yourself).

Steering: Check the fluid level in the power steering pump, also the belt tension. If those seem okay you may have an issue with your power steering pump (police and security vehicles burn out steering componets much faster than regular usage cars). Not a super difficult fix on this car, but I do not know how much it costs.
