Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default Fuel gauge - dual tanks

Hi guys,
The fuel gauge in my new '91 Club Wagon isn't working. It has factory dual tanks with the switch under the dash to change between front and rear.

I've already established that the switch IS working. By turning the key on and listening to the fuel pumps prime, I can tell that it is switching back and forth between the 2 fuel pumps. The gas gauge stays on "E" no matter which position the switch is in.

Yes, there IS fuel in the tanks. I put about 10 gallons in the rear tank when I drove it home from the auction. I don't know how much is in the front tank, but I've been driving it on the front for 4 days now and it hasn't run out yet.

I'm thinking the switch is probably at fault since it's not likely that BOTH sending units would fail at the same time. But I don't know which wires on the switch are for the pumps and which ones control the gauge. I also don't know what kind of readings to look for on my ohm-meter.

Any help troubleshooting this thing would be appreciated, thanks

-Tony

Broken wire up to the dash would be worth checking. Test the continuity from the dash to the tank.

Hey, my dad said something to me about his 2000- f-150 and how his gauge wasnt working. He told me that the sending unit is biult into the pump and the whole tank or punp has to be replaced. his was quoted at 700$ for a new pump/ sending unit but im not to shure on the dual tanks. good luck

What your talking about is called a module, and I do believe the 91 F150 was so equipped.
