Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

That van's not even 10 years old. Why on EARTH would you junk it???

Sorry but you hit a soft spot. Many times I've been to the scrapyard dropping off some scrap steel when I see someone come rolling in with a car that would be perfectly suitable to drive with a little TLC, only to send it into the scrapyard to be crushed. Most of them tell me "it's over ten years old and has like 120,000 miles on it!"

I'm sorry... in what parallel universe is 120,000 miles considered HIGH MILEAGE??? I don't consider any car to have high mileage until it ticks over 200,000. It just pisses me off to see these people crushing perfectly decent cars only to go buy some plastic piece of crap that was made in Japan.

As far a clicking lifters go, I don't know about any damage being done. I've driven cars with clicking lifters over 100,000 miles without issue. The older Oldsmobile engines were notorious for doing it. I've also had a few Ford and Chevy V8's that did it. You can try running the valves or dumping a quart of ATF in the crankcase to try and free them up if they are sticky. I just get used to it since it generally doesn't affect the way the engine runs.
Actually the motor is in pretty poor shape in my thunderbird, check my threads and I elaborate a little on it. But yeah, it sounds like the main bearings on my paticular car, I got heavy thump on initial start-up and around 1500-4000 rpm I have a healthy knock. Basically I'm just trying to keep the car going as long as I can.

I did that with a 350 rocket in a '79 Olds Delta-88. The rod and main bearings were so worn out that the oil light would come on at a stoplight, even with 20w50 oil in it. You could hear the rod bearings hammering at high RPM's. That old motor ran like that for almost 15,000 miles before I sold it to some gangsta' from Chicago a couple months ago. He's probably still driving it...

Ok, I looked up how much work the van had gotted done in the past and if it saw an oil change every 10,000 it was lucky the trans was starting to go. Also it was nevr maintained and on top of that it was our tow mule we have a 10 ft cargo trailer with about 2,500 lbs in it plus the junk in the van it was rusting out everywhere the paint was chipped/ gone the passenger door wouldnt stay closed unless it was locked, it needed shocks tires brakes more then likely a trans down the road in a couple of months it was cheaper for us to junk it then to fix it.
