Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default 2000 E450 Parking brake
The parking brake on my 2000 E450 is bad. Push the pedal down but it doesn't hold the vehicle.

I guess the brake thingie holds ATF (Mercon) and I suspect it's dry or low on fluid. Haven't looked yet.

As far as I know, I should remove the plug and fill the housing with ATF until it spills out, then screw the plug back in. Is that right? But I don't know the procedure. Should the brake be released while topping off the fluid or doesn't it matter?

There is an adjustment on the cable by the parking brake. It does hold ATF and that does sound right for checking the level, I don't think adding fluid is going to make it hold.
