Engine computer

Hi, I have a 1990 Clubwagon that has recently been shuting off while driving. If I let it cool a few minutes I can get it running ,but poorly, and soon it will do the same thing. With a lot of throttle pumping ,I can get the engine to settle out enough to limp it home at about 35 mph. I had it die out on me in the past,once, but wouldn' start, and that ended up being the TFI mmodule. I replaced that again but to no avail. Ithink it may be the ECU. Can some one explain how to remove it? I found it on the passenger side inside firewall, and tried to remove it from the inside. Under the hood I can see the wiring harness with a plastic cover and a bolt through it . Hopefully that dosen't need to come off as it is not very reachable. I need to get a number off of it to order an after market one. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be more worried about fuel pressure than an ecu.

I'd be 1000 posts that its not the ECM.

Thanks for input. I have changed the fuel filter and have attached a fuel gauge to the injecter rail shradder valve and have 40 psi-koeo and 35 to 40 psi driving around depending on rpm. I read an article where a tech disconnected 5 of the sensors or inputs to the ecm and recorded that the computer in limp mode caused his vehicle to be at least drivable. Mine is not what I would call driveable, thats why I suspect maybe the ecm is faulty.
