Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default E150 Conversion Van Tow capacity and more ?

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I will be buying a used E-150 conversion van tomorrow and we wonder if anyone here knows the towing capacity of the '2002 5.4L V8 model. Also, has anyone experience towing 24 feet travel trailer with a similar van, this weight approx 4800 pounds dry?

Any advice or any concern about this models?
Should I pay more attention to something specific when test driving it and when looking at it?

Thanks in advance guys.

Tow capacity depends on whether or not you have the factory installed Class III Trailer Tow option. The quick way to check is do you have an auxiliary transmission and power steering coolers ? Also the factory option has a prewired 7 pin connector under the rear bumper and a connection under the dash for the brake controller.

If you have this you are all set. If not your going to have to get these things installed at additional cost.

Towing that much weight requires a Class III trailer hitch along with a load equalizing hitch, anti-sway control and an electric brake controller. (Of course you need to make certain the trailer has properly functioning electric brakes.)

With all of the above mentioned equipment, towing is really quite easy. Drive the post speed limit. Slow down when it is windy and or rainy. Watch your corners. Learning to back up can be a challenge.
