Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Angry 1986 E150 Coolant Leak

Hey, I own a 1986 ford E150 camper van with a 5.0L V8.

About a week ago I noticed a bit of coolant in the oil tray in my driveway and did not think much of it. A couple of days ago, I noticed that coolant was dripping from the bottom of my van. It only drips after it is driven and warmed up. I looked underneath and noticed the drip was not coming from the radiator, but from somewhere up in the engine. Does this look like an expensive repair? Please help! I use this van every day!

No it has not been overheating. Is it ok to drive as long as it does not overheat?

Default Most likely a hose leak

After about 20 years, hoses start to break down. I would suggest looking for antifreeze drips on the ends of hoses; wipe them down and check again. Finding a leak can be frustrating, but at least the remedy is usually somewhat inexpensive. If the van is not overheating, it is probably not a pinhole leak in the rad, although if it is the original rad, it is probably getting ready to plug up or leak. Hope this helps. Probably OK to drive as long as you top up the rad every few days.

Most large auto parts stores will loan tools for free. Get a cooling system pressure tester and pressurize the radiator when it is cold. This will help you find the leak faster !

it might just be a hose but if it is not drive to frequently it could also be old seals in the water pump that have dried up
