Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default E-150 2007-Driveline vibration

Good day all, I have a 2007 E-150 standard size Van. The van was an open box in back with the basic padding and platic/ruberized floor liner running from front to back. I have since removed all of that and installed a 1/2 wood deck, insulation layer and a indoor/outdoor carpet front to back. The walls and roof are still open.

My problem is that at speeds of 56 to 62 mph I get a vibration that definetly comes from the driveline.

Intitaly when I purchased the van with all of 34 miles on it, everything was fine until approximately 1500 miles when this developed.

I have since had it into my dealer now 5 times for this issue along with three new drive shafts. This week a Ford Engineer took it for a drive with me and agreed there was something there but wanted to inspect the drive line. I left the van with them for three days to investigate and repair.

There findings were, No problem found. It was said that they drvie shaft was removed and the bushing in the tail shaft would be inspected and compared to a liek new vehicle to determin if it showed any unusal wear.

Well needless to say since I am writing this the vibration is still present and is driving me nuts. I know a vibration when I feel and hear it. I've been a wrench most of my life, I have raced go karts mortor cycles and cars.

Now what the heck to do? Wel I'm certainly looking for opinions and answers here, but my next move is to remove the drive shaft and take it into my local Driveshaft shop. That's thier only specialty and have them balance it.

I have had them do work on drive shafts berfore for this very reason and it has resolved the problem on other vehicles. Now in this case I hope it does, but if it does not what would be your next choice?

I'm thinking rear end. BTW I forgot to mention that on the the first drive shaft this vribration was present accelerating as well as coasting. Now it has settled into under acceleration on this last one.

Currently I have 21400 miles on it.

Thanks to all.

Does your state have any "lemon laws" to protect you as the consumer? You did buy this vehicle brand-new, which should allow you to qualify for any protection that is offered by your state's lemon law...

I know it's not the answer you wanted to hear, but it is all I can offer. Hopefully someone else will chime in and offer some diagnostic advice for you.

I agree with the Rev. Do your research on your states Lemon Laws (they are different from state tot state).

Before going to the Driveshaft Shop, contact the Ford dealer again and see it they will pay for the balancing, especially since the Engineer agreed that there was a vibration.

Thanks for the replies, I am in California and yes we have lemon laws.
although I'm not sure how they might apply at this point. Definetly will look into them.
I have also installed my own custom stereo, amps speakes etc. so that would be a pain in the ass to change out. as well as the possibilty of that interfering with the lemon law possibilty.

I agree abut getting ford to pay for it. Frankly I doubt it ahead of time, but it's only $75.00. If that does the trick then I am pretty sure that I can take that back to them and say hey, the balanicng solved the problem and I'd like compansation for it. If it makes no change, then I think I'll write to Ford and see if I can get them to investigate the rear end.

I haven't seen that before but what do you think about a problem with the ring and pinion?

Have the rear wheels and tires been checked for being out of round. You may rotate wheels to check if vibration moves to front when wheels are rotated.

Good point, if I'm right they have been rotated once. but I think just to make sure of that I will rotate them this weekend.

As for out of round I would hope so, but I can check that myself as well here,.

I'll let you know

It sounds like the driveshaft is fine, but it could be the spindle that the driveshaft connects to on either the tranny or rear end. It could be warped, bent, whatever. I know on my sisters vehicle the driveshaft was installed incorrectly, like where it attaches on to the spindle was crooked, and that created a bad vibration. Hope this helps.

On this model the front of the shaft has the slined shaft connected with the U joint, that will go with it to the balance shop.
The rear of course connects to the flange of the pinion input.

thanks for the input,
