Ford EconolineThere's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.
My stereo has buttons for XM Radio and Aux In.
Is there an input I can use for my iPhone, or can I make one?
I've pulled the radio out and see an extra connector but need to know what wires to connect the L/R inputs to. Does anyone know how I can utilize the Aux In on my radio?
In my experience, the only way to connect a phone to your car stereo in an effective hands-free manner would be to use bluetooth. Your stereo and phone will need to be bluetooth-capable. If your phone is bluetooth-enabled but the stereo is not, most stereos can utilize an external bluetooth module - but that module will be model or brand-specific to match the stereo.
The aux in on your car stereo is really so you can connect up a portable CD player or mp3 player. Most aux in ports are a 3-lead (stereo) 1/8" jack.
Actually, that's all I want is the ipod part connected to play music. FM Transmitters are horrible, and I'd like a direct connection to the stereo. There is no Aux In "Port", but there must be 3 pins on the unused connector (or the used one) on the back of the stereo that I could even solder a jack to.
OK, thanks for explaining. Now I understand what you're trying to do.
Well, here's the deal. You can't just tap into the harness's connection for the Aux In, because that would bypass the stereo's amp and thus you'd get no output. Check the back of the stereo for a small surface-mount or cable-mount aux-in jack. If you find one, all you'll need is a double-ended 1/8" stereo cable - one end plugs into the back of the stereo before you reinstall it, and the other end will get run out the bottom of the dash so you can plug it into your mp3 player.
If there really is no Aux In at all on that stereo, you're outta luck. You'll need to swap out the stereo to get a hardline connection.
In your owner's manual it states that the AUX button is used to toggle between the DVD system and the stereo. I too have been wondering if I can just solder to the correct pins, but I haven't found any information on which three pins to use. Some people have talked about using the P.I.E. adapter. It is about $80 and supposedly works great. I'm thinking about pulling the stereo out of the dash and doing a pin out to see if i can get it to work.
Glad to see this thread alive again. Hi Steven. I did that in my Lexus - spliced onto the line from the cd changer to the stereo and installed a switch to pick iPod or cd (I never use cd anymore). I just couldn't find a wiring diagram for this Ford. Have you found one?
