O/D Flashing, speedometer pegged, no Cruise, no odometer or tripometer
Ford EconolineThere's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.
O/D Flashing, speedometer pegged, no Cruise, no odometer or tripometer
Well, I cured my ABS light problem, but am still uncertain of the remainder of the problems endured during a pretty healthy snowstorm while driving to the Spring Nascar Race in Phoenix. I went to the RV Mechanic website, and they said that it was a speed sensor located on the back of the tranny.
Now, I'm getting conflicting info that it is directly tied to the ABS sensor. I have a 96 E-350 Chateau Motorhome with a 460 engine. It shifts hard as hell and is extremely sensative on even the smallest climb. The engine valves are really getting after it, and it sounds like something is going to break, but the engine, for a 96' is still as strong as a horse, minus the O/D!!! The nearest RV outfit that could look at it is over 200 miles away, so am hoping that I can get a straight answer here -VS- spending a buttload of money for something that may be a self, quick, and fairly inexpensive fix. There is a code receptacle both under the dash, and in the engine compartment, but reads nothing when hooked up to a code reader, and all the fuzes are good, inside and out. Any ideas???
On my 95 club wagon, that sensor referenced at the rear of the tranny was not there, It was in the top of the rear differential. This sensor does double duty, in that it reads vehicle speed, and wheel slippage via a tone ring mounted inside the differential housing.
O/D Flashing, speedometer pegged, no Cruise, no odometer or tripometer
Found the speed sensor mounted above the rear differential, and replace it after disconnting the battery. Then reconnected the battery and fired up the RV, and no change. Could the tone ring that is supposed to send a signal be damaged in the rear differential?? I'm baffled!!!
Problem Solved!!!
After changing out the VSS "Speed Sensor" on the top of the rear differential, all I did was start the engine, and no change.
Today, I took the RV out and cleaned her up in anticipation of taking her to a local mechanic, and one of the things I researched was when trying to reset the sensor or other gadgets, was to make sure you are driving somewhere, and to push the select button on the mileage so that it reads the trip mileage. Well, I did that, and then zeroed/cleared the trip mileage, and all of the sudden, everything went back to normal. I drove it out of town for around 30 miles round trip, and still everything was fine. I believe my initial problem was just a shorted out speed sensor. Initially I thought it might be a damaged speedometer cable or a worn wiring harness that plugs into the sensor, but that was fine. Thanks All for giving me any help that you did!!! I'm once again a "Happy Camper" Barry
