Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default Undervan tire storage cage-removal

I have mounted my spare on the rear doors. This works well for my purposes.

I'd like to get rid of the steel frame that was used to hold the tire under the van. However, it looks structural (big, heavy, lots of steel riveted in place).

Does anyone know how to safely reinforce this area if it was removed? I'd like to use the space for underfloor storage from the inside of the van.

Many thanks.

Tom
