Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default E150 camper conversion questions

Just wanted to say hi first of all. I'm on the cusp of purchasing my first ford.
We are looking at getting either an E150 or an E250 and converting it into a basic camper. I have a few questions I was hoping some of you guys could help me out with.

1. Is it possible to add more windows? When I'm in the back it looks like the shape for windows is already there just they haven't been cut out. We'd like to get some windows that can be opened up and maybe have a screen in them. Sort of RV style. At the very least we'd like the kind of windows that pop out from the bottom sort of like the kind seen on passenger vans.

2. We'd like to add a 14"x14" vent to the top. The only problem I see is the top have grooves. Have any of you done this and how did you seal it with the grooves?

3. Do I need special heavy rated tires for this vehicle? I would like to get BF Goodrich all terrains but I'm not sure if they'd have the load rating required for this vehicle. Anyone know what load rating is required for this van? I tried to get All terrains for my westfalia and it was near impossible to get a 14" tire with the correct load rating.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

If you want windows, buy a van that already has them. Adding windows will be very expensive, especially if you want ones that open and close and don't leak !

As for tires, are you saying that the van has 14" wheels ? I'm pretty certain all E150s come with 15" wheels standard. Look for a truck tire that has a maximum inflation of 50 psi, like the Michelin X Radial LT. There is a heavy duty version in size LT235/75R15/C (note the "C" on the end) that has a max load capacity of 1985 lb/tire

My advice is worth every cent you pay for it !

No i said my Westfalia had 14"s and it was hard to find a good all terrain tire with a high enough load capacity.
