Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Talking E350 newb

Hello everyone!!

I'm about to purchase a used 2001 E350 super duty cargo van with 28,000 miles, 5.4 motor. It was previously a government vehicle that was purchased at an auction.

It is my first "real" van and I'm excited as hell!!. My first gen Honda odyssey van is not cutting it anymore when I need to haul my Dj gear.I just need a reliable gear hauler that will be used for hauling my gear and possibly my scooters around.

Some problems that I know that I need to take care are:

1)rust on the 3rd brake light area

2) there is a water leak present. I can smell a musty smell.

3) there is a "miss" from the motor at all times. One of the techs pulled a misfire in cyl. #3. The dealer will take care of that problem.

I have some basic questions and have done some basic searches on the net.

1)Should I go ahead and replace the plugs to be on the safe side and see if they are stripped??

2)Besides the spark plug problems with the 5.4, is there anything else I should know about these motors.

3)Would you recommend to service the transmission everytiem I replace the oil??

4) Has anyone here ever "customized" their van; wheels and leveling kit. If so, where can I get info on wheel and tire size, and also what leveling kit to use.

5) Are these vans reliable.

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance!!
