Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Default 02 E250 hinged side cargo door hard to open

My 02 E250 side cargo door opens and closes hard - need to put all of my weight behind it to close the door. The problem is in the hinges but I can't seem to get any penetrating oil in there to do any good. It's only on the cargo door closest to the passenger door. I believe it got this way from all the winter salt that gets blasted to these hinges from the front wheels when I drive on the highway. Anyone with an idea on what to do??
Thanks

I'm having a similar problem with one of my '02 E150's rear doors. It's very hard to open or close. It take 2 hands and all my 260 pounds to close. I've tried wd 40 and axle grease with no success. I've also loosened the hinges and tries the door, but experienced the same problem. Is it the hinges? What can I do?

I've had all 4 of my swing door hinges do the same thing. I found there are two metal fiber washers in each one. Move the door slowly and you will notice just a slight metal wire sticking out of the hinge. Work on pulling the wire out with a pair of needle nose pliers. It will take some time to get all of the washer out. Once out put some penetrationg oil or lubricant in them. On one of my doors, I removed the hinges and put them in a vise and used a lot of penetrating oit to free it up. Hope that helps.
