Ford Econoline There's more to the Econoline's staying power than Ford simply sticking with a product that has been the No. 1-selling full-size van since 1980. The Econoline has received only minor changes over the years. The result is a cargo van that looks different, but is still very much the same. For many E-Series customers, that is the best news of all.

Have you been able to test it out?
Unfortunately no. They sent the wrong splines. Won't get it until Monday.

That picture is just one of many ways to apply pressure to the clutches. (Springs)

The OP's D60 uses a different method to apply pressure. They can not be seen unless the spider gears are removed from the carrier. Below is one of the spider gears with the clutch pack installed on it.

I have heard that the vans use a c-clip 35 spline axle and aftermarket posi and lockers are not available. A Dana unit may have been your only choice but at least they make one.

Stand by - I'm about to display my lack of info...

It really depends on the axle involved. The full-floating axles (E-250 & up) don't use c-clips, but I don't know about the semi-floating in the E-150. I'm digging this out of memory from my youth, so it may be bogus by now.

Great post! I've been through a bad gear install in my last truck (one of the reasons I dumped it) and would rather have my fingernails removed with pliers than go through that again. Let us know how the LSD feels - I miss the Auburn unit in the truck, but not enough to risk a crummy install again.

Is it a bad sign when the van seats more than the camper sleeps?

Another day, Another trip trip to the shop.Two actually.
Got some more (corrected) info from the owner.
New differential will be lubricated with posi-trac gear oil.
Gear ratio is 4.10
The new differential uses a set of clutch plates. In this photo they are located inside the top of the unit. I asked about a spider gear and he said "No".

Got the ratio and placement of the clutch plates wrong before. What I get for taking pictures as he's talking to me.

The van axle has a 35 spline:

The new differential originally came with a 32 spline

Looks like it has Trac-Lok marked on it

By the end of the day they had it installed.

Now the bad news. When they went to remove the fill plug from the differential cover it was so rusted the threads came out with it. New cover on order. Maybe tomorrow.

You are going to have a nice stump puller if/when you get her back.

I think they like your van so much they don't want her to leave.

I think I'm starting to like the Dana 60's they put into the vans.....
35 spline axle shafts (the more the thicker and stronger the shaft is)
32 and as low as 30 on the full float axles.
The tubes on Van Dana 60's are thicker diameter than all the rest.
The weak link is the c-clip but by looking at your photos I'm thinking that they are fairly stout. Did you get a good look at them? How thick are they?

@GPz11
They may like my van but I'm pretty sure they are sick of me stopping by and asking questions and taking pictures. Not the kind of thing they're used to.

@Stumpalump
I didn't get to see them put it all together but here is a picture I took when it was first apart.

If you zoom in it shows what I'm guessing is one of the c-clips.

Looks pretty substantial to me.
