A fool and his money/a muffler saga Just a word of advice for the towing public.
05 e350 3.73's, Airraid filter, air box mod, remainder bone stock.
Installed a beautiful new magna flow exhaust on my van in hopes of better performance. It did help, top end opened up quite a bit, and slight improvement in gas mileage. Bottom end suffered a little.
Noise was increased, but van got quiet at 2400rpm when it hit the sweet spot, did make a weird low growl at 2000rpm that was obnoxious.
Gave it a test tow on our last camping weekend, when hooked to trailer a weird reverb of sound made the van LOUD, too loud for fun. The only thing I can think is that the sound wave was somehow bouncing off the camper trailer. Ended up driving for 1.5hours with my IPOD cranked up!
Dear Wife said nothing, she's such a good and patient soul. Called the muffler man(my best buddy and I now his best customer) and told him to save my stock exhaust, as I would be back the next week for a followup. Long story short, reinstalled stock, lost my $200 and will lick my wounds to the bank. I guess I will just have to wait on those towing mirrors till next month! A fool and his money are soon departed. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't! The stock 3" Ford exhaust does the trick for me! |
