Ford Edge It seems that the days of the big boxy SUV might be numbered (at least temporarily). In the meantime, consumers are flocking to vehicles with SUV functionality and sedanlike handling characteristics. Ford's first attempt to hop aboard the "crossover utility vehicle" (CUV) bandwagon came in the form of the lackluster Freestyle.

Unhappy Edge 2008 Front Sunshade Problems

2008 Edge Limited Edition w/1200 miles - the front sunshade will not retract and just hangs down in a loop - feel this is a real safety issue and in trying to get it fixed Ford Customer Service (1-800-392-2673) Ashley very unco-operative - definitely a bad attitude said she couldn't help me and my local dealership says they have no knowledge of the problem and I have to drive roundtrip 120+ miles (closest dealer) for them to 'TAKE A LOOK" to see if they can figure it out!!!!! Anyone out there with the same problem??????
Don't like to drive it too far because of the safety issue so would appreciate help. Thank you

Can you take a picture of the problem and post it? If you can't fix it yourself you probably will need to take it to the dealership.

I know that is now what you want to hear, but they are the ones who will fix it for you if you can not do so yourself.

Exclamation 2008 Edge Sunshade Problems

I know I can't fix it, but Ford and my local dealer haven't got any idea what happened and how to fix it!

The sunshade is a thin lined fabric which roles up as there are two sun roofs - one large one in the front with the lined fabric sunshade and the smaller one in the back with the usual type sunshade. The front sunshade rolls up in a compartment between the front and back shades.

Have you had a problem like this?????

OOOHHH! For some reason I thought you were talking about the sun visors. Yeah the vista roof cover is something that you will definitely not be able to fix. The dealership where you bought the vehicle is going to need to fix this problem. They will need to remove the roof lining to tighten up the sunshade or fix the motor if that is the issue.

Either way, you are going to need to take it back to the dealership. They should fix this free of charge. I would recommend seeing if they are open on Saturday and make a day trip with a couple people so you have something to do while you wait for the vehicle to be fixed. I can not see it taking longer than 4 hours and most place should be open on Saturday to do the repairs.

Furthermore, I have not had a problem like this in my 2008 Ford Edge. And if the dealership where you bought it from can not fix it or doesn't know how. Then you will have to escalate the issue to corporate or a regional office and make a formal complaint. They should be able to fix and if the dealership is stating they can't, they are probably giving you the run around since they just don't want to deal with it.

Hope this helps.

Default 07 Demo Edge Vista roof issues too

Hi! New to site. I just got my 2007 Edge SEL + on Saturday. It was a Dealership owner's.
The side gaskets on my vista roof keep coming off. One is totally gone. I've ordered a new one. The other popped off today when I was closing the roof.
I slid it back into place and opened and closed it and as it closed, it pushed the gasket forward and off the track.
I haven't seen this posted anywhere. Suggestions? It's driving me nuts! I live in AZ, my roof will be open & shut all the time!

Default Sunshade ISSUES

I just took delivery of my new 2009 Edge Limited on Saturday, today (Tuesday) I had the same issue happen with the Sunshade. It appears as though there possibly is a motor driven roller that takes up the slack of the shade as it is retracted into the compartment between the windows that is not functioning. I would assume you should be able to feel the roller rolling when depressing the switch to retract the shade, the front track is moving but the back is not, therefor creating the sagging shade.

This is disappointing to say the least, but more so disappointing is the apparent cheapness of the shade, as the poster above mentions its just a thin piece of fabric, to have something like this happen on a vehicle that is over 48,000 Canadian dollars on day 3 of owning it is upsetting.

I have 100% confidence that the dealership will fix this problem and make it right, I have been purchasing new Fords from them since I have been driving and have never had any issues with service in the past.

Truth be known, I didn't even know the sunshade existed, when I test drove the vehicle it was retracted back, and I assumed that the Vista roof system was only glass and the main reason we selected this vehicle, once we sat in one with the Vista roof, that was the model Edge we had to have.

Other than the roof issue, the car is simply amazing, the kids love having their own dvd players in each headrest, the Sync system is great and this unit is fully loaded with all the options.

Now if I can just get the sunshade issue fixed!

My wife said just take it out completely!! But I am sure its something that can be fixed and will work without problems in the future. I will await the call from the sales rep!
