Ford EdgeIt seems that the days of the big boxy SUV might be numbered (at least temporarily). In the meantime, consumers are flocking to vehicles with SUV functionality and sedanlike handling characteristics. Ford's first attempt to hop aboard the "crossover utility vehicle" (CUV) bandwagon came in the form of the lackluster Freestyle.
I just bought a 2008 Edge Limited AWD on monday, and today it started making really loud clicking noises when I turn left or right. I looked underneath to see if there was something stuck but found nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? I am taking it back to the dealer on Tuesday to be fixed, but I am worried I might have a lemon.
Actually, I have heard a clicking noise just driving. Seems to be coming from the rear of the car and it was driving me nuts for awhile but I just ignored it. LOL Probably not the best idea, but I am just to lazy to get it looked at or fixed.
Let me know what you come up with when you take it to the dealer.

I know you can get this clicking noise from your rear parking brakes. Not sure what type your car is, but if it has the rear disc with the inner rotor/brake drum for the parking brake. It is very common for the linner to come off the brake shoe. The linners just float around in the drum/ rotor and click. GM has this problem a lot on the trucks.
My service advisor said the 20" factory rims had some defects and were making noises. So new wheels were ordered and I will see if that corrects the problem. Not sure how a rim can make a noise though... especially when it only happens while turning. I will keep you posted on what happens, it does have four wheel vented disc brakes.
could be a clearance issue... (and the "defect" could be a bad early revision)
Sometimes, the brake shields drag or scrape the wheel just a tad.

Ford Engineers are researching the problem, as it is commonplace, infact my service advisor said every 2008 Red Edge/MKX with 20" wheels is making the noise. Not sure what the color has to do with it, but I hope they fix it soon, as it is extremly embarassing to be driving a new car that sounds like a beater. My friends with Hondas are convinced Fords suck now!
Getting the same noise. Took the car in and they mentioned there was a back order for a part. A 20 million piece back order. Finally got the problem looked at, it went away for a bit and came back. I hope there will be a recall to fix the problem. I really love the Edge, not the noise.
Could this be a safety issue? Is the question......
I am still getting the run around from the dealer, I wonder if Ford is actually looking into this problem. Has anyone else here had their clicking noise fixed?
