Ford Edge It seems that the days of the big boxy SUV might be numbered (at least temporarily). In the meantime, consumers are flocking to vehicles with SUV functionality and sedanlike handling characteristics. Ford's first attempt to hop aboard the "crossover utility vehicle" (CUV) bandwagon came in the form of the lackluster Freestyle.

Default 2008 Edge performance question

Hello:

Anyone ever heard of the following performance issue related to the Edge specifically or any other 2008 Ford product: My brothers' 2008 Ford edge with 10,000 miles on it has been a dog off the line from purchase. The Edge that was originally test driven was very aggressive off the line and performed well (actually exceeding expectations). We have an excellent dealer and have a long relationship buying from them. The dealer has been unsuccessful at determining what the issue could be. I recently test drove another Edge straight off the lot it was very strong. My brothers' car feels like it is starting off in second gear if that makes any sense? The motor runs smooth and strong to redline. The power just is not getting to the ground. No information is available from Ford on rear end gear ratios (I thought that this could be a causal factor if this particular car has very high gearing - apparently no way of knowing this). The overall build quality of this product is excellent. The handling and ride quality - also excellent. All in all a nice car but in order for Ford and other American builders to hold on to what they have of the buying market - they need to be able to get on an issue like this and resolve it to the customers satisfaction. Meantime, I am imterested if anyone out there has heard of a transmission issue possibly related to the electronic shift program, etc.
