Ford Edge It seems that the days of the big boxy SUV might be numbered (at least temporarily). In the meantime, consumers are flocking to vehicles with SUV functionality and sedanlike handling characteristics. Ford's first attempt to hop aboard the "crossover utility vehicle" (CUV) bandwagon came in the form of the lackluster Freestyle.

Default 08 Edge Vibration/ Leak

Hey all,
I just did my first oil change on my Edge and noticed a trans. leak on the right side by the PTU unit. I've got 24K on it and love it otherwise. I'm a 19 year auto technician and found a bulletin for this problem if anyone is interested. The Ford bulletin # is 08-12-3. It calls for a new set of seals for the PTU and trans. intermediate shaft. About a 2 hr. job.
My other question was, has anyone had a vibration problem on their Edge? I have one that starts at about 30mph and goes away at 50mph. It sounds like a wheel bearing but you can feel it in the seats when driving. I'm taking it in for warranty work and will report back on what they find!
Well a visit to the dealer proved interesting. They found that the center support bearings on the drive shaft are cracking and causing the vibration. I've also seen this on two other Edges in our shop. I think this is going to be a widespread problem The bad part is, the drive shaft is one unit and not serviceable(at least not yet)The cost, $825.00!!!!! Luckily The warranty is 4/50 on this part. The seal problem is another thing. The seal kits are on back order by 685!!! Yet another looming problem I think.
Peace Mark S.
