Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Hey Mike
I'm having the same issue with my '05 FWD escape, approx 10-12 MPG in town. Are you having any tranny problems? Mine sometimes shifts hard into second??? I don't know if this has something to do with gas mileage?

Last summer we bought an 01 Tribute with 110,000 km. Over the first few weeks we made some highway trips and were getting about 9.5 l/100km (29.5 mpg imperial).

Shortly afterwards I changed the trans fluid, transfer lube and differential lube.

Into the fall and colder weather the mileage dropped - substantially.

In the real cold it was as bad as 20l/100km (14 mpg imperial).

Last weekend I changed the plugs, pcv and of course the upper manifold gaskets. No numbers yet - although the first indicators are better, the weather is also a lot warmer.

wobbie.

My new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid got as low as 22 MPG during the extreme cold weather this winter. Now that the break in period has about ended (approacing 5,000 miles), and the weather has warmed up, I have seen several tanks in the 30-32 mpg range, and had one tank at 36 mpg in 60 degree F weather. And I am driving less aggressivley, so all the factors combined are starting to come into play. Good time to be a hyrbrid owner as I have been paying around $3.35 USD per gallon.

Default Pushing 25-26MPG

I have 2001 4cly and on a good run I push 26 MPG Cruise control peged @ 60 MPH- I paid $6000 two years ago (2006) How much do the 2008 Hy-birds pull out of your pocket ??? Will you ever recoup the difference in price? 29 MPG in Hybryd does not seem that great to justify cost.
