| Squeal in engine compartment. HELP PLEASE Lateley I have been experiencing a squeal that sounds like a belt slipping when I accelerate. It is driving me crazy. I changed both belts and the belt tensioner. I then removed both belts and the noise remained. If anybody has any ideas I am wide open to suggestions. |

| Could it be the transmission? Was it shifting normal? |

| It shifts good unless you get on the gas hard and then it revs up but really doesnt accelerate. I also noticed that while driving on the highway it downshifts more to maintain high speeds on small inclines. It is an automatic transmission. |

| Here in Northern Ohio its flat as a pancake but in a strong head wind my 05 automatic will jump in and out of overdrive.
Does it only do it while moving and in gear, what happens if you put it in neutral and rev the engine a little?
If it does it while sitting still try taking a length of vacuum hose and place one end close to your ear and with the other end try and locate the noise. |

| It does do it while not moving but you have to rev the engine. Thanks for the responses Ill try the vacuum trick. The vehicle is a 2002 Ford escape 2WD 3.0 V6 automatic transmission. |
