Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Ignition key will not turn...

on my 2001 Escape. Its the oddest thing I have ever seen. Its currently at a supermarket parking lot and couldn't happen at the worst time in my life. Went back twice and tried WD40 and my spare keys and the key will not turn or budge a hair!

Anyone else having this issue and what did you do to resolve this.

Seriously, these are some bad times for me and I have no money to get the car towed!

I don't even care about locking the car or worried it would get stolen. I just want to start it and get it home.

Thanks for any advice.

There is another post with this same problem.2 things were discused.tap the key with a hammer(internal tumber problem) and the steering wheel in a bind really bad jack up the front to take the pressure of the front wheels. You could get a dummr key cut from the vin but that would have to wait til Monday cuz you dont want to break the chip key.

My 2002 Escape occasionally does the same thing. What I discovered is that when I put the vehicle in "Park", the transmission doesn't always lock. It takes a lot of effort to force the transmission into "Park" and step on the brake at the same time after this happens. Obviously the vehicle is not running. My Escape does this about twice a year - usually at the gas station when it is 20 below zero and again in the summer when it is 100 above. Try forcing the shifter handle into "Park". it always works for me.
