Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default strange noise when accelerating

I have (just purchased, first car) a FWD 2001 Escape, 88000 miles. It runs great but when accelerating at about 25mph the front right (from drivers perspective) makes a sound I can best describe as an empty popcan dragging across the road. After 25mph it occasionally happens. Any ideas? Its not constant, just happens for a few seconds.

Bad CV boot, or shock, take your vehicle into a ford dealership and get it inspected and then get it replaced.

Turns out it was just the bottom of the heat plate that was rusted and sitting on the exhaust. A mechanic broke the part of the heat plate off and the sound is gone. Got to love free easy fixes.
