Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default 2001 Escape - strange dinging every time car started

2001 Ford Escape 100,500 miles... love the car.
PROBLEM: 5 days ago when we started the car - we had a strange dinging one ding every second for 5 seconds.... then a 5 second pause then 5 dinging again then another 5 second pause. This continued for 25 seconds (5 times).... then dinging stopped. After we had gone 25 miles it started all over again.

Took to our local garage and they said because no check engine light is on they can't scan it.

CAN ANYONE HELP??? What is causing this? - no it is a real ding and doesn't sound anything like a seatbelt ding

Does the airbag lamp in the dash prove out when you cycle the key?

Default Air bag light

My 2002 Escape does this as well because my air bag light finally burned out. This is actually explained in the manual.
