Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
so we recently bought a 05 Ford Escape XLT V6 Auto...the car's been great, love the car but today my wife went shopping at a local mall. Afterwards, she tried to back out of the space and she says the power steering wasn't working and she had to gas the car more than usual. And she put it in Drive and the car didn't want to go foward. (I'm guessing tranny didn't engage, she says it felt like she was in neutral on a downhill). what could be causing this? I called the Ford dealership and they said it would cost $92 to run a diagnostics and they probably can't regenerate the scenario. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? I'm guessing the computer might of went crazy for a second?
The car will not shift into gear unless the engine RPM is below a certain level.
If she revved the engine in reverse, it sounds like she did not get the car back to idle before placing it in drive. It would then remain in neutral until the RPM dropped to normal.
There is probably nothing wrong.
Check the accessory belt and the power steering fluid just as a precaution.
