2001 Ford Escape Transmission wont ingage in Drive
Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
2001 Ford Escape Transmission wont ingage in Drive
I have a 2001 Ford Escape with an automatic transmission that will not engage into drive. It goes in all other gears fine and if you are moving about 35 mph or better you can move the transmission into drive and it will then work until you slow to under 35 mph.
not sure what the issue is but it started happening yesterday,
I had a similar issue with mine only mine was at 22,000 miles. Pretty much my whole transmission went out on me. Right before I took it to the stealership it dropped reverse so I had to push it out of my driveway. They ended up replacing the entire transmission with another junky CD4E.

Well the transmission stopped working completely while I was on the highway the other day dropped out of gear and wouldn't go into any gear again. Had to have it towed from the highway what a backup I caused!!!!
We have a 2002 Tribute with very similar symptoms. 100k miles plus. We've done a fair job of maintenance ... did a driveway fluid pump/flush some 6 mos ago. 15 qts of Mobil1. Old fluid was a bit discolored. Never installed a new filter. Today we installed new digital range sensor switch ... no change in symptoms.
Does anyone know exactly what system inside the tranny is in failure mode? Could it just be servos? Has anyone with these symptoms captured a code?
Well, I hate to give service work to a dealership ... but I had just too many current projects unfinished. We were able to drive to dealership.
Today we go to the Ford dealership and pick up the Tribute with tranny replaced ... and leave behind $2600 (and change). Took them just over a day. Hope we never have to utilize the warrantee.
