Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

I have a very large and well known detailing department in our area, and this is the same fabric that Chrysler has been using, along with some GM vehicles.
It is a complete PITA to clean, but it can be cleaned. It usually takes my guy about 25% more time to do these interiors becuase of this issue.

The problem i am having with my 08 Escape is there is a rattling/chirping noise that sounds like it is coming from the drivers B-pillar area....other then that i love the thing.

I have a 2008 Escape with the tan seats, and they look like crap from sitting in the car with a wet coat and/or pants from the snow. I've tried a lot of things which only seem to make the stains more pronounced. Does anyone know if Ford will address this issue?

Man I hope these seat fabric issues get resolved and Ford has to recall all and replace them.

I cant believe how many people are complaining about this issue on new cars, you would have thought Ford would of tested the fabric.

My wife has a Pontiac with Black cloth seats. It seems as though cleaning them makes the stains worse on those seats as well.

I just purchased a 2006 Escape 2 weeks ago. In doing the research I saw many complaints with the seat fabric/staining thing. This prompted me to get one with grey leather. So far, so good...just got some seat covers so my &#% won't freeze.

I have gray seats and have the same problem. 2008 Escape. With just a spot of water leaves a white spot on the seat. cleaning it only leaves a bigger spot, although not white. It IS embarrasing. So much for my NEW car.

I just got my "Customer Follow up survey" from Ford after my call to their Customer Care center regarding this issue. I am going to print this whole thread out, as well as another conversation between 20 or so other people on another forum talking about this same issue. And I'm going to send the copies with my Follow Up Survey to them. And ask how they can not call this their problem. Its clear there are many people with this same issue. I dont care whether its the seat cushions or the fabric. This is THEIR problem. Like others have said, a car thats 1 yr. old should not have stains coming out of nowhere. I cant even clean it up enough to show it to a dealer to try to trade it. How can you put fabric in a car that stains when it gets wet????
I am fuming mad that they havent recalled these seats completely. Costly for them or not, ITS THEIR PROBLEM. 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRENTY:

Nobody recalls for non-safety issues. They may issue a TSB but that's about it.

I have the same problem. Originally I thought it was because the first spill was clear juice, but then I got in the car from the rain and the stains began to form. I used a solution that I used on my carpet in which you only use the foam and it caused a small spot to turn into a large stain. They called the fabric premium when I bought mine and that gave me the impression it had a type stain repelent on it. Now I'm looking for seat covers because looks like I have abused the interior.

Default Ford needs to recall this seat fabric!!!!

OK, I'll start at the beginning. Bought my 08 XLT Escape with 13,000 miles on it. Saved thousands off sticker. The vehicle is everything my active family needs. V6, 4 doors, 4X4, great gas mileage. It had some faint stains in the tan cloth seats when I got it, but nothing major. Since I bought it less then a year ago, There are horrible stains developing on every seat. I have never seen a worse fabric in my life. Some of the stains are from water drops, and wet shorts coming home from the lake. I have other HUGE dark brown stains that have come out of the seats themselves. I have had 1 spill in it period. I took it back to the dealer which happens to be 50 miles away, and they claimed they had never seen the problem. Said they would try to clean them, but need the vehicle for a whole day, and they dont have loaner vehicles. Well by the time I take a day off from work, and get someone to pick me up, I might as well pay someone up my way out of my pocket to TRY to clean them. The Ford dealer near me, could not even get Ford to authorize a shampoo job on them. I called Ford directly, and told them of the problem, and they replied that they have not received enough reports on the problem to issue a re-call. I have found another thread on Edmunds.com Ford Escape forum, Where people are having the EXACT same issues. How long does Ford need to let this go before they act??? I am embarrassed to have anyone get in the car, because it looks so horrible. Have even thought of trading it, never to buy another ford, but I would lose too much money. I have heard people talking about seat covers, Why cover up the problem? Some of these stains are coming out of Ford's new Soy based seat cushens, and I dont know how they can keep denying it. What about when you go to trade and they take the covers off to check out the seats? It will cost me nearly 1000 dollars to buy leather seats out of a wreck and put them in my vehicle. Mind you this vehicle is less then a yr. old, and still under 3 yr. 36000 warrenty. If there is a Ford rep. monitering this forum, I would love to hear from them. I would post pics of the seats on here but dont know if I can. I felt I had to join this site, and add my complete displeasure with the way Ford is denying this problem. I am so pissed about this, I thought of listing the car on E-Bay, with a $40,000 opening bid, so everybody thats on there shopping for an 08 Escape opens my auction to see why its 40 grand to open, and have all the pics. be of the seat stains. And say in the description, Here's what your seats will look like, in less then a year if you buy this SUV with the tan cloth. In this day and age of uncertianty in the American Automotive industry, Ford should be more careful of wanting to keep what owners they have, satisfied. I hope people thinking of purchasing an Escape find their way to this thread BEFORE they buy. I wish I had. Thanks for reading this, hope it helps in your choice of vehicles.

This problem with the seat covers goes back a few years. When did Ford start using the soy based cushions?
