Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default power steering fluid?

2002 XLT ESCAPE. There is a strange whiny noise coming from my steering wheel. Started a few days ago only when I went around a curve - now it is there when I turn the ignition on. How do I check the power steering fluid?

look at the level in the power steering fluid container, if it is low refill with more and rotate the wheel back and forth completely, recheck the level and refill if necessary.

I had the same problem and had the fluid flushed (and refilled. needed to be anyway) and the same noise stopped. Or if it is really bad, how loud is it? The noise came up again later after I had some work done at the dealer and it was a lot louder this time. It was because they put the fluid hose too close to one of the pulleys and every time i turned it would get louder from it just slowly shearing away! All fixed now of course.
