Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default remote starter & PATS

I'm considering getting a remote starter installed. I know that it uses a PATS bypass module to overide the anti-theft system during remote starting, but does it also bypass the PATS during regular key startup. If so, does that mean that I can use a non-encrypted key (off the shelf cut) during regular key starting or do I still need to use the encrypted key

I believe it has a timer where it runs for only a few minutes before it needs a chip key but I could be wrong.
The old remote start systems had to have a key or the "chip" installed by the transciever so they would work.
Ford does offer factory remote starting systems though I have never installed one myself.

I will tell you one thing, the PATS software in the PCM is very, very picky ! I would try to "trick" it or you may not be able to start it at all.

To my knowledge there are no official, "Ford Motor Company Approved" remote starter add ons.

My dealership installed a Ford remote start in my Escape. It works great!!
No issues with the security of the PATS software.....
