Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Angry Escape 08 Brakes?? Already!!??

08' Escape FWD ABS with 10,500.

For the past month or so, I've been hearing a grinding noise when I apply the brake towards the end of the braking process or just as it's about to stop. It's only coming from the left rear brake from what I can tell. Anyways, it seems to be worse the more I drive or on hot days.

I take it in and they say they need to replace the rear brake pads and it won't be covered under a warranty because I have had the car since April 07 although I only have 10k on it. $200.00

What's up with this? I'm a very responsible driver who can honestly say I baby my car. I coast up to lights or stop signs and there are no excessive driving conditons to speak of. It's a simple to and from car.

I've had 5 Ford Leases all have been at least 2-3 years in length and have NEVER replaced my brakes. What gives here?

I had the same problem, however, my Ford garage fixed mine under warranty. I actually bought the car used, with 4,600 miles on it (It was a lease/company car). At 10,300 the brakes started grinding. The garage replaced the rotors and pads. They checked out the calipers and slides, but everything seemed okay. I would contact Ford customer service. I am guessing that this is a widespread problem.

Thanks for the response. That's totally my impression too. I was trying to level with the tech doing my job.I'm asking all the obvious questions. He basically said that the pads they put on were the "updated" pad. What that tells me is that they are well aware of a rear pad issue and now have changed them to something else. I will contact customer service because something is obviously amiss here. I will update.

The warranty does state specifically that brake pads are not covered, however you must have some other problem to cause the rear brakes to wear out so soon (rear brakes can last up to 100,000 miles). It could be your parking brake not fully releasing or something else.

Customer service will likely just read you back the warranty.

My suggestion is have them checked in about 5,000 mile (maybe a a different dealer ?). If they are showing wear, your problem is still there.

I had mine replaced after 14,000 miles. They refered to a TSB.
Good Luck...

I would call Ford customer service. When it comes to Ford parts there are FORD, then MOTORCRAFT. The motorcraft pads do not fit properly once they have worn down a bit... But it does not effect how the brakes operate, just the noise will always happen. For wearable items such as brakes the warranty is 1year or 20,000k, whichever comes first, so technically you were out of warranty for the brakes. And to be quite honest with you it is not often that the dealership can do much. If you compain to customer service they will contact the dealer, if you always lease Ford vehicles they will obviously be more willing to help you out

I just double checked now and there is a TSB, if you have already paid for this, and have not resolved this issue I recommend returning to the dealer. It is TSB08-11-2
