2002 Ford Escape- High Pitched Whine When Accelerating
Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
2002 Ford Escape- High Pitched Whine When Accelerating
My 2002 Escape XLT has 86,000 miles on it and just started making this high pitched whine after I start the engine....the pitch goes up upon acceleration? Any ideas of what this could be an indication of????
Sounds like a bearimg in a pulley, tensioner or alternator.Remove the accessory drive belt and see if the noise goes away.Spin each pully by hand and check for roughness or noise.

I just got my escape back from the shop...new alternator, trans fluid flush, power steering flush, new sway bar and new battery, 2 new tires, they threw in an oil change and alignment......the whine is still present albeit now it is lower in pitch. Suggestions?
hi lewigen, i have a 2001 ford escape 6 cylinder 4x4 that also has a high pitch while accelarating; however it the sound stop when brakes are applied. does you noise go away when brakes are applied?
anyone have any ideas -- still think its the alternator?
I had a new alternator installed on my 06 escape, the whine started upon installation and it never went away, they replaced the alternator a second time due to the whine. It is normal to occur after a new installation but it should go away after a couple days.
Also the fuel pump can cause a high pitched whine , have you changed your fuel filter at proper intervals ?, I still suspect the alternator first though.
