Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
it has little or no power below 2,000 rpm after warming up. sometimes it will hardly pull itself down the road to the point of being dangerous. once i reach about 2,000rpm we have plenty of power. its not the catalytic converters.
i have no check engine light and my code reader does not read any stored codes...
any ideas?
i just bought this, the first 600-800 mile it drove fine

Look for vacuum leaks.
ANd for air getting in after the MAF sensor.
See if you can give some additional information, because I am kinda reaching here.
I would think that you should get some codes.

Gotta run.. on my way out the door.
See if you can find some info on the EGR, I think if it is not functioning properly you could get a loss of power, I don't know if it would be more pronounced when warm, nor if it would be more pornounced at the low end of the RPM spectrum.

today i just noticed that when its warmed and i try to accelarateu the ign timing drops to around 1 degree btdc . she will slowly wind up to about 2K then it goes to 20-25 btdc and i have all the power i could want,
i didnt see where the timing was at when it was cold and had power from a dead stop.
my current "big" scanner is not updated to 2005 yet... need to get a hold of the autoxray guys tomarrow
Does your car have a SPOUT connector? IF so, you should pull it and check your based idle timing. I don't know what it should be at but 1-2 Degrees BTDC seems low.
I may be way off here, but I think that the timing is computer controlled, and the computer relies upon a number of sensors in making its decision on what the timing should be. Amoung those that I am pretty sure are involved, are...
Temp sensor, MAF, Idle AIr Control IAC, Throttle Position Sensor TPS, and maybe the Cam position sensor.
Of those mentioned... the MAF and IAC can be cleaned.
Hmmm thinking a little more, I think even the O2 sensors may contribute to setting timing.
Vacuum leaks... air infiltration after the MAF can screw with the fuel air ratio, causing the O2 sensors to give a wrong reading.

Joe, I think you are in the wrong decade ! I think SPOUT went out with EEC-IV and the TFI ! But, IIRC disconnecting SPOUT would give 10 BTDC.
LOL... Well most of my tinkering was with '64 - '71 models... points etc.
Only this past year with a '90 bronco... my first introduction to computer controlled ingnitions sytems.
Heck I only learned that SPOUT existed 6 months ago, so it is new to me! Oh yeah we were discussing a 18 year old truck.
Cars.../ trucks without a carburetor!? EFI... wow... something to learn about that!
Couldn't find my spark plugs on my '99 crown vic... each is hidden under its own coil! What.. no distributor cap?!
Hehee... when you state... too many cars.. "too many years" ... man are you right!
Eventually I'll get around to reading about the distributorless ignition systems.
One of the problems that I have is that I do not know when/ what year, they switched from one system to another. Too many years... too many different systems.
Thanks for bearing with me.
