Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default egr code

I have a 2002 Escape with check engine light on. I pulled codes and they point to egr issues. I pulled the valve off and the diaphram seems to move and hold vacuume. Has anyone experienced this or know what could be causing this trouble code. Thnxs in advance for any help.

post the code because if its P0401 and has to do with the egr. it can be d.p.f.e sensor, it controls the egr basic number 9j460. also the is a vacum valve that you can take the little top off and there is a filter in it, just blow it out also blow the inside of the valve out.

Question Check Engine Light

I have the same problem with my 2002 Escape. The check engine light comes on, stays on for about 3 months, then goes off for awhile, then comes back on. The dealer says it is "no problem" but I don't like it one bit. I want it fixed so it doesn't come on at all. Should I bring it back to the dealer and tell him it is the"egr code"?

90 % of the time its the DPFE sensor,it reads if the egr is vavle open or not by reading a pressure change in the exhaust. It is controled by the EVR solenoid.

He is correct the DPFE fails and it can but usually doesnt take the EGR with it, if you connect a diagnostic computer it should show EGR Flow insufficent or overflow, remove and replace your DPFE sensor, i bet your gas mileage as decreased as well.
