Partial fluid change. After my 05 escape started shifting slow into OD, possibly slipping as it shifted, I decided to change my transmission fluid. I pulled the ALLDATA for it at school and found there is a drain plug, not a traditional pan. I bought 2 gallons knowing it was a 10.2qt system so I thought 8 would come out. I pulled the plug, and it drained almost exactly 4qt....the old fluid was pretty dark. I replaced the plug and went for a ride, the problem was almost fixed, but at a 40% change rate it was still 60% old fluid and I'm picky with the car so I wanted it to be better than that. I drove 50 miles and changed it again, so now it is shifting really good, but still 36% old fluid. I developed this chart to calculate the amount of old fluid left in the system after a partial change: partial change# |%0ld fluid
|60
|36
|21.6
|12.96
|7.78
|4.67
|2.8
|1.68
|1.01
|.6
Does anyone know of a way to drain more fluid from the system? 40%partial changes are going to get annoying... |
