Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Dim (Dumb?) Dash Lights

Ok so I dont know why this ticks me off so much but I bought my 08 Limited Escape 9/07 and have taken it in for service at local dealership (where I purchased) at least 5 times for dash lights flashing/dimming. Here's the trouble, I drive on country roads and like to drive with dash lights dimmed, not completely dark nor fully bright, but med low. Sometimes driving at dusk, the dash lights (direction, date, time, temp) click completely off for almost a minute and then flash back on or dim really low and then flash back on really really bright. This morning it did this about 6 times in 20 min. Very distracting! I cant believe this is the way its suppose to work and yet the service people shrug their shoulders and tell me not to change to light setting. Really?? I guess its not broke down but when you pay for all the bells and whistles seems like they should perform as expected....oh yeah in addition to the annoying dash light issue, I have had to have the passenger door rubber seal replaced, the lift glass seal replaced (twice) due to leaks. Wow. What happens when the warranty is up.....

My guess would be that it is the dimmer switch, or the connections to it.

I heard something about a voltage regulator supplying the dash too, I don't know what it does, nor if your truck has one, but it is something to ask about.

I'd start talking about the lemon law, and calling customer satisfaction at Ford.
Also, you may consider taking to the owner of the dealership and asking for a recomendation of which other dealership is known to have good mechanics. That'll get someone's attention!
