Oh what an Escape!!

I recently found that my a/cond is u/s ........2 months out of warrantee, leaky evaporator apparently, not bad for 60,000 km. Australia price, through Ford is $1400 + labour + gst .....what tha? Now i read the thread about brake rotors....an aussie car ....no an over priced import with parts prices to match......what ever happened to a cheap aussie car for the aussie working class.You could afford to buy an Escape but pray nothing goes wrong......"an arm and a leg".

No one makes vehicles like they used to.

Engine + frame + wheels = best reliability out there. Minimal electronic gadetry! Amen.

Aint THAT the truth?! Sorry...but the days of having a decent, reliable car that's cheap to fix went out the window with the addition of all this electronic crap that they put in automobiles now. They're making them so hard to work on yourself, sometimes I'm surprised we even HAVE auto parts stores anymore!

Sorry...I like my Escape, I really do. But when it comes to reliability, and ease of home repair...I'd put my 1989 Mazda 626 up against it ANYDAY! My Mazda's nearing 200,000 miles with only one major problem ever. The Escape has already had three with less than 100,000! And I'm paying so much in payments and insurance on it, I wonder if it wasn't the biggest mistake I've made!

Newer vehicles have more electronics. If you can understand the systems you can work on them yourself. I do all the maintenance on my vehicles myself unless a problem occurs when I'm out of town and away from my tools. NAPA and I get along fairly good. I ordered a TPS, IAC, front rotors and pads for my work vehicle - a Dodge durango R/T. Took me a few hours to do all the work (I need a hoist), but I saved myself a good $200 in labour!

I do agree that the newer vehicles are almost impossible to do much work on, especially those hybrid cars, my huge hands barely fit anywhere around that engine block (it's so small!). Ah well.

Any reason for the increased insurance costs on the Escape? My taurus is my primary vehicle and my durango with the 5.9L V8 and AWD is half the price as my second vehicle.

Yea their all pretty much rice burners. But that our fault. Our government owes so much money to other countries, that we subsidise them. Plus they can pay their people 5 dollars a day instead of 25-30 dollars an hour.
