Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default '09 Escape Digital Display Replacement Ideas?

I just bought an '09 XLS and am going to be replacing the stock head unit with something that won't be making use of the digital display that sits separate from the main component. From what I understand, when this is done in an XLS, the display just shows the "Ford Escape" start message that you see when you turn the car on.

I'm wondering if anyone has come up to a good solution as to what to do with this thing once you've removed the stock stereo. One thought I had was to see if it is possible to get the pieces needed to run temp/compass that is in the XLT, as it sounds like those work independently, however it seems like kind of a waste and something more creative could be done instead. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi there.

I have the same issue/question! And I came across a solution. I've decided to install a Scangauge (link) to replace the digital display when I upgrade my stock unit!

I think it will be a perfect fit and very helpfull to monitor MPG.

I also found that we can display the % of torque going to the rear wheels (for those who are AWD), check this.

Very sweet, can't wait to do my installation!

The % of torque to the rear wheels, I question! That Scangauge is on a older hybrid and unless its AWD/4WD is different than a non-hybrid "on demand" system, where you only get rear torque with FWD slippage or a real heavy throttle from a full stop. Those pictures don't show any slippery driving conditions, so that's why I question the value shown on the display.

Haha, actually just found that same item this morning prior to seeing your reply there. I ran over to the shop where I'm having my system installed and they figure it should be a pretty good fit, though they will have to cut some spacers to fill in the sides since the current display is a bit wider. I order it up from Amazon(amazon direct, not some crappy 3rd party seller) this afternoon and will be having all the work done by mid next week. I'll post back here and let you guys know how it is.
