Help!!! 2001 ford escape electrical issue with instrument panel light!!!

Help!!! 2001 ford escape electrical issue with instrument panel light!!!
I was driving to work this morning and all of a sudden the backlight for my instrument panel went out and both turn signal lights came on. After a few seconds the turn signal lights went off and not there is no light t all in the instrument panel. I have also notice that when I hit the brake pedal, the odometer light and light to the clock will go off but will come back on when I release the brake pedal. I had the alternator and battery checked and they were both fine. I was told that there is probably a ground wiring problem. Has anyone else had this problem before?
