Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
I have a coolant leak that looks to be coming from the top of the water pump on my 2001 Escape. It has the 4 cylinder 5 speed engine.
It's funny, it leaks when I start my car up, then after it warms up, it stops.
It doesn't run hot, at least not on the gage. Any idea if replacing the gasket will cure my leak? If so, is that a major ordeal that needs to by done by a mechanic?
A water pump leak can be intermittant, just as you have described. Although I have not personally replaced one, my repair information suggest that it is an easy job once the car is jacked up and the right front tire is removed. Nothing major.
