Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Manual trans 4x4?

Hey guys,

I have been looking for an 01-04ish Escape 4x4 with manual transmission but no luck.

Do these even exist? In Canada? I have found 1 4x2 model but no 4x4s.

Any reliability issues with these? I know the auto transmissions had their problems.

the manual transmission/AWD was available up to 2006 with 4-cylinder only. They do exist and are a fun vehicle to drive. It may not have been an option on the earliest models though, for sure 2005-2006 though. Pre 2005 4-cylinder was 2.0l, which I have never driven but can imagine was GUTLESS...the 2.3l is adequate though, especially with manual.
