Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Exclamation FE2.0 2001 - Ignition Coil

Hi guys, i'm from Malaysia & own an Escape 2.0 year 2001. Just noticed this yesterday.. When i drive between these ranges, my engine will do "something" like jerking or slip or bounce & found DTC 0705 on the odometer display: -

- idle 1.8 rpm @ constant speed of 80km/h or
- idle 2.0 rpm @ constant speed of 90km/h
- idle 2.2 rpm @ constant speed of 100km/h

I did an extensive DIY check up on my emission system and i found out these: -

fig 1: Ignition coil before dismantled.

Fig 2: Dismantled: I found out that the plug connector point number 4 [bottom left] does not fire up (i think) as white dust - electro dusk (fluck) accumulate on it, while others connector plugs are well fired - no white dusk & seems greasy.

Fig 3: Spark plug wire connector point number 4 (bottom left) also shows the same symptom.

May i conclude this findings as spark plug misfiring due to faulty ignition coil whereas a replacement is required. But there is no DTC code on Odomete display.. Or can i clean or service it DIY.

Thank you all in advance for your input.
