Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default engine problems

I purchased my 2009 Ford Escape on 12-29-08. On 2-23-09 on the way home from work the engine started missing, I wasn't sure I was going to make it home. The dealer said the third coil was burnt out and replaced it. I had the car about 2 weeks and the same thing happened, I again returned to the dealer who said it was the same coil. He replaced the coil and the fuel injector thinking that maybe the injector was seeping causing the short. I had the car exactly 7 days and it did it again. This time the dealer replaced the computer. At this point they have had the car more than me. Yesterday I took the car back for a (for lack of a better way to say it) stutter in the gas pedal. It is not affected by speed or shifting. You can be cruising right along and feel the gas pedal stutter almost as if the engine wants to cut out, but doesn't. The dealer changed the shift timing cycles hoping that would fix the issue, however it didn't. We are waiting to put a flight recorder on it. Has anyone else had this sort of stutter? I even test drove another 09 Escape and it didn't seem to have the issue.

my gas pedal will get a slight vibration or stutter feeling to it , usually after I go from accelerating to cruising speeds. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, I thought it was just related to the drive by wire system, it doesn't affect the engine operation or tranny operation at all, I just get a vibration through the gas pedal, like the system is making an adjustment.

Wow, that is just insane! For some reason that coil is creating a hotter spark. Maybe you should try to change the coils around and see what happens.

Default Update

Just wanted to update on my issues...I took my car back to the dealership and they put a flight recorder on the car and recorded 3 incidents of the car missing and one with the engine light coming on. After much delay they called and told me that the Ford Tech line suggested that the car needs a new engine or a buy back. He then took another 2 weeks to get back to me on what Ford wanted to do for sure. After finding out that I did file for lemon law they told me that "something" was causing the drive module to burn out in the computer which was causing something to burn out the third coil and they would be willing to put a new wiring harness, cylinder head and another new computer (second one) and see if maybe Ford would extend my warranty but only if I dropped the lawsuit. Today my attorney called and basically said that Ford does not believe me because I have had no service requests since May, but in fact I have been waiting on parts and call backs since then. I will never buy another Ford! BTW, they have never address the transmission issues since they changed the shift cycles.
