Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
I'm reaching out to ask if anyone has suggestions on what to do. I was driving at about 70 mph, AC on, sunroof & shade closed and we heard what sounded like a small bomb went off inside the car then we heard the sound of air as if the sunroof was open. We pulled over and looked on top of the car. There was a large hole in the glass about the size of a dinner plate and the rest was completely shattered. It actually looked as if someone had punched the glass from the inside because the rest of the sunroof was bowed upward. There's no evidence of anything hitting the car, besides we would have seen something that large coming at us. This was very scarry & I just thank God that the shade was closed as the glass would have surely flown into the car. My mom was in the passenger side & my son in the back seat!
while rare it is not uncommon for glass panels to fail due to stresss and perhaps some type of defect in the glass panel. It seems to happen mostly in hot conditions when the a/c is used in the vehicle, under certain conditions a glass panel will fail and create an explosion effect. It happened to my father-in-law on his Dodge Caravan, driving on the highway in summer heat with the a/c on, the rear quarter panel glass blew out, it scared the crap out of everyone in the vehicle as it sounded like someone shot out the glass with a gun. I've seen it happen on vehicles, home windows, balcony glass panels, etc.... . I hope your son wasn't too scared, it can be quite alarming when it happens.
