Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Rear Hatch will not open on 2008

I have a 2008 Escape Hybrid and the rear hatch no longer opens. The glass will open up ok but not the rear. I have tried a lot of things to get it to go but no such luck. Any help would be great. The dealer said that the handle is something like 400 bucks!!!! Car has 44,000 miles so it is out of warrantee and I assume that the extended warrantee does not cover this.

Well I figured it out today. The button to open the door was shorted out. I have to replace the button and I should be back in business. Now I just hope that you can buy the button alone!

Shorted out?? How so? It only has two positions, opened/closed. If it was shorted across the contacts, it wouldn't close!
